Piece of crap,
Don’t waste you money on National Geographic Kids Junior Metal Detector. It is a piece of plastic crap. We put a battery in it, adjusted it per instructions, which was very difficult, and was only able to pick up something that was on the top of the floor. When we took it outside, it wasn’t able to detect anything, even when we put a coin in the grass. I couldn’t get the stupid thing broken down to return it so I am stuck with it, which will probably go in the trash once I can fit it in. This was to be a Christmas present for my grandson. We went to Farm and Fleet and got a better one.

Terrible metal detector. Didn’t pick up much and is very short. My 8 yr old has to bend slightly to use it. We’re sending it back.

After carefully calibrating sensitivity, it just doesn’t detect most metal. It can sometimes detect a coin on the floor if you set the detector on the coin and wait a couple seconds. It detects the refrigerator OK, but should really be able to detect smaller metal objects too. We played with a cheap one as kids that worked so much better than this one.
